Where does the square peg fit? Understanding the evolved concept of best-fit in a post-pandemic worldThe pandemic has brought to the present what was once called the 'future world of work'. With the rapid evolution in industries, job roles, work styles, and overall development, it is essential to assess the existing career guidance dynamics. In this session, the panelists will focus on the:
- Resultant and anticipated changes in higher education

The Coal and Diamond: Understanding the real value of Investing in educationThis session will shape the understanding of the burning issue of return on investment in higher education. As counselors, one of the most frequent questions parents ask is about the concrete placement and job prospects for the future as an outcome of the investment in education. Unfortunately, evaluating higher education through employment and financial options has resulted in myopic conversations about the different learnings and benefits of higher education opportunities today. In this session, experts and alumni from various universities will share:
- Tangible and intangible enhancements/skill acquisition at the university stage
- The need to go beyond employment outcomes — how & why?
- The reimagining of the perception of good quality education

- Resilience in the Times of Uncertainty
Times of uncertainty can create a stressful environment. This presentation will introduce people to the VUCA methodology and the Appreciate Inquiry methodology so as to have essential tools in order to be resilient and promote adaptation in unknown environments. - C for Compassion: Beyond the 3 C's of Course, College and Country
In a world flooded with information, making a career choice can be a complicated and confusing process. An essential part of this process, along with supportive guidance, is self-awareness. In the tumultuous teenage years, when students struggle to discover themselves, meaningful and impactful learning experiences in community service and engagement are a powerful tool to facilitate this journey of self-discovery and awareness. The session aims to help counselors understand how compassion can help students to learn and grow. - What Universities Need to Know: A Discussion with Counselors in Africa
This panel will discuss the dynamic changes the counseling community in Africa has had to deal with in the past year, and the way forward. Specifically aimed at helping university delegates understand the evolving landscape at the high school level, the session will address questions that university representatives need to ask of school counselors, such as evolving decision-making patterns among students and parents. The panel consists of three school counselors from diverse education boards and geographies and a university representative as a moderator. - Joining the Dots: Online and Hybrid High School Models and the Future of Pre-tertiary Learning
The aim of this session is to explore some of the exciting high school futures we have glimpsed during the pandemic. Recent events, and advances in technology, are helping us realise what Hemant Taneja refers to as the ‘unscaling’ of the industrial education. We will describe some new and innovative models of high school that promote equity, diversity, inclusion, and human flourishing before examining the real institutional challenges these models face when seeking wider acceptance from the global tertiary admissions sector. There will be time for an open-floor discussion.

- Harry Potter Effect of Counseling: Implementing the Counseling Laboratory (TM) Pedagogy
The Counseling LaboratoryTM pedagogy helps erase school boredom by contextualizing academic lessons with the real world of careers and colleges. This session shows how each teacher can use the learnings from the pedagogy and make their classroom lessons enjoyable. The session also demonstrates how counseling can be a collective effort rather than limited to just one teacher or counselor.
- Creating a Culture of Empathetic Counseling: Snapping Cocoons
The session will focus on centering trauma caused by ableist attitudes in two primary ways:
1. Through a psychosocial framework that includes multiple stakeholders such as family, peers, teachers, counselors, school management, etc.
2. By looking at the sensorial architectural effects- the session attempts to address the "unsaid" and expose the attendees to a gamut of assistive engagements available in this space.
- Revitalizing Global Student Mobility
We are at a pivotal point where the world aspires to untangle itself from the travesty of the pandemic. International student mobility has been disrupted, perhaps more than ever. We need to reframe and reinvent our understanding of global mobility. We need creative solutions and interventions to make education more equitable and sustainable. This panel will share highlights from the Open Doors 2021 Report on International Educational Exchange, and engage in discussion with U.S. university experts on how educational institutions can continue to remain resilient, committed, and optimistic.
- What Universities Need to Know: A Discussion with Counselors in Latin America
This panel will discuss the dynamic changes the counseling community in Latin America has had to deal with in the past year, and the way forward.
- Enhancing Counseling using Sustainable Development Curriculum and Practices
Education for Sustainable Development is recognized as an integral element of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on quality education and a key enabler of all other SDGs. Schools have a profound responsibility to impart moral vision and technical knowledge on sustainable development to ensure a high quality of life for future generations. This session will deliberate if current educational curricula have the requisite competences to increase the quality and effectiveness of sustainability education for their students. Panelists will also showcase with examples of “hands-on-practice” where students have utilized knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to address sustainability challenges within their communities.
The Virtual University Exhibits are immersive online experiences designed to offer all the benefits of a traditional university exhibit, in a virtual capacity. Included in the festival registration, these exhibits offer a focused networking opportunity with an expected 400+ schools from IC3’s global network of schools. Being Creative is Easier than Being Innovative: Ten Golden Rules to Unbundle Creative Potential
Creativity is the original natural resource. It is the one inimitable quality that sets human beings apart from any other living species. It is about improvement, improvisation, re-imagining, re-inventing and rediscovering. A creative mind is essentially work in progress. In this engagement, we shall focus on what might loosely be described as ten golden rules to unleash creative potential. The gift of creativity is given to all without exception. In practice, however, very few take on the mantle of discovering its power. These rules are born from the speaker’s own experience and will not be found in textbooks.

Innovation and Growth in Sustainability and Food Systems Careers
In September 2021, the UN convened a Food Systems Summit as part of the Decade of Action to launch to deliver progress on the Sustainable Development Goals, each of which relies to some degree on healthier, more sustainable and equitable food systems. Two months later, countries from around the world met in Glasgow to discuss the future of our planet at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference (or COP26). While the outcomes of these and similar meetings will no doubt shape the future of our food systems and our response to climate changes, the students of today are already making their voices, and increasingly their activism on behalf of our planet heard. The session will discuss broadly the globalization and growth of sustainable agri-food and agri-business programs as they continue to build inclusive dialogues and open new opportunities for students and communities. This session will discuss overall growth and opportunity in the field while also exploring innovative programs, research, and emerging career opportunities in the field along with illustrative examples of student success and suggestions for schools who want to bring sustainable practices and programs into their institutions.
The Annual IC3 Awards recognize extraordinary contributions to the field of career and college counseling each year, presented to high school counselors, schools, universities, admissions representatives, and organizations that stand out for their inspiring work. Learn more here.
